Orkas
Open-source desktop app that runs a team of AI agents on your machine.
What is Orkas?
A free, MIT-licensed desktop app for macOS and Windows. You brief it in chat and a coordinating agent called Commander splits the work across specialised agents — research, documents, presentations, video, websites, data analysis. The app ships with 500 credits and the interface covers 18 languages including Arabic.
The feature that matters most is the one least advertised: you can plug in your own provider API key, in which case that provider bills you directly and no Orkas credits are consumed. That is the difference between a tool you rent and one you own — your costs stay with your own account and no credit balance can strand your work.
Free accounts allow 5 shared projects of 5 members and 100 MB of cloud storage. Paid tiers (Lite, Pro, Max) add credits, multi-device sync and more storage, but their prices are not published and Lite is still behind a waitlist — so treat the paid side as unsettled and judge it on the free app.
